2014 SCTM awards to journalists
The Standing Conference of Towns and Municipalities, within the Support to Local Governments in Serbia in the EU Integration Process’ Program, awarded eight journalists from local, regional and national media at the event organized on October 22nd in Belgrade Media Centre.
The competition titled ‘Differently than Others’ was open from March 1st to August 31st 2014 for journalists of TV, radio, print and web in Serbia, and during this period SCTM received 72 applications out of which 69 were accepted. Decision on best media coverage was made by independent jury consisting of leading media editors in Serbia: Nada Gogić (RTS), Suzana Trninić (TV B92), Zoran Baranac (Prva), Veselin Simonović (Blic), Zoran Panović (Danas), Ivan Cvejić (Beta) i Zoran Sekulić (Fonet).
SCTM awarded eight journalists in four categories:
EU integration of Serbia
- Report on river Jošanica, journalist Nemanja Stanković, Prva TV
- Illegal logging in southern Serbia, journalist Bratislav Ilić, TV B92
Environmental protection
- Forced to start small business, journalist Marija Obrenović, Nedeljne novine Kragujevačke
- Married couple knitters, journalist Predrag Stojković, RTS
Gender equality at local level
- German as foreign language in the elementary school ‘Kralj Petar I’, journalist Biljana Kuzmanović, TV Lav Užice
- Local office for poverty reduction, Nevena Vrtulek, journalist Radio Novi Sad
Business environment at local level
- EU officers in local administrations, journalist Jelena Lešević, Kraljevačka televizija KATV
- Management of IPA funds, test for state administration, journalist Tamara Tankosić, RTS
Selected journalists were awarded tablet computers.
The purpose of this SCTM media competition was to emphasis the role of local governments in the mentioned areas (EU integrations, environmental protection, gender equality and business environment) in order to additionally improve the performance of local administrations and quality of services they provide to citizens.
